2023 marks the unveiling of Plural, official successor to the Papier fair. Although Papier has won the hearts of the public over the past 15 years, its evolution called for a new formula and a renewed identity. From now on, the new fair will fully assume its role of presenting a plurality of mediums, with an emphasis on the excellence of the artists’ representation.
Plural celebrates the best of contemporary art in Canada. Created by and for the galleries, the fair presents and brings together the plurality of voices and works in contemporary art from across the country. It elevates art market practices through a rigorous selection of galleries presenting thoughtfully chosen artists and artworks; and through accessible programming that addresses current issues and questions in the field of art. Plural fosters the discovery of new voices and forms of expression in leading contemporary art and cultivates a sense of collectivity within the Canadian art community.
The AGAC is proud of this inaugural edition, which consolidates the status of the Plural fair and of Montreal as an essential hub for discovering the best in Canadian contemporary art. In addition to undergoing a rebranding, the event expanded to include 49 Canadian galleries, a record number of exhibitors.
